The Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday will be celebrated in 2017 during the first week of classes from January 23-28, 2017 (as the Federal holiday falls prior to the return of students this year). MLK Week 2017 marks the 22nd annual Ithaca College community celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his teachings. 

The MLK planning committee is proud to announce the 2017 MLK Week theme:  The Ultimate Weakness of Violence from "Where Do We Go From Here" (1967), the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s last book.  "The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it. Through violence you may murder the liar, but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth. Through violence you may murder the hater, but you do not murder hate. In fact, violence merely increases hate. So it goes. Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that."

The planning committee is soliciting academic presentations as part of this week of learning and service.  These educational sessions can be presented by faculty, staff and/or students.

Academic presentations will be held on Tuesday, January 24 or Thursday, January 26 between 12:00 and 1:00 pm or on Thursday, January 26 at 6:00 pm.

Presentation proposals should be submitted utilizing this on-line form no later than October 31, 2016.

You will be notified no later than November 11, 2016 if your proposal has been accepted for presentation.
