Ithaca College

On Tuesday, October 18th Ithaca College hosted our annual Point of Dispensing (POD) for all faculty, staff, and students to receive a free flu vaccination. This year our POD staff vaccinated over 900 individuals! That’s 450 more than we have done in either of our two previous PODS.  

The POD is an important part of the Ithaca College emergency preparedness plan, and tests our ability to deliver potentially lifesaving medication quickly and efficiently during an emergency or disaster incident that may pose a threat to public health. Ithaca College is the ONLY college in CNY that trains students to be part of a national volunteer organization (Medical Reserve Corps) that supports public health emergencies, and Ithaca College is the ONLY college in CNY that assigns student volunteers to leadership roles and POD worker positions.  Significantly this year’s POD was executed with a staff/student ratio of 1:3.  

Therefore, we want to thank the entire IC Community for making this such a successful event, allowing us to evaluate our current plan, staffing levels, enhancing the student experience, and helping us to be better prepared to respond in the event of an actual emergency, when you will need us most!
