Monique W. Morris, Ed.D., presents: "Toward a Liberative Construction of Safety and Healing in Schools:  Responding to the School Pushout of Black Girls" on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at 6 p.m. in Klingenstein Lounge. 

Monique W. Morris, Ed.D., is an author, educator, and social justice scholar with more than 20 years of experience in the areas of social and economic justice, juvenile justice, and education. She is the Founder and President of the National Black Women’s Justice Institute (NBWJI), an organization that conducts research, provides technical assistance, engages in public education, and promotes civic and policy engagement to reduce racial and gender disparities in the justice system affecting Black women, girls, and their families.

Dr. Morris is also an adjunct associate professor for Saint Mary’s College of California and has taught at the University of San Francisco and California State University, Sacramento. She is the author of several books, book chapters and other publications, including Pushout: The Criminalization of Black Girls in Schools (The New Press, 2016); Black Stats: African Americans by the Numbers in the Twenty-First Century (The New Press, 2014), and Too Beautiful for Words: A Novel (Amistad, 2001/MWM Books, 2011).
