The Handwerker Reading Series Presents Creative Writers on Social Justice: Raza Rumi and Tyrone Shaw -- TUESDAY at 5:30 pm in the Handwerker GalleryContributed by Jacob White on 10/30/16 The Department of Writing is pleased to announce its next Handwerker Reading Series event, to be held this Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 5:30 pm in the Handwerker Gallery (Gannett Center). Tuesday's reading will feature creative nonfiction by Raza Rumi and Tyrone Shaw, who will explore the connections between creative writing and social justice. Here is a little more about these authors: Tyrone Shaw’s Bastard Republic uses a mix of memoir, reportage, history, and travel writing to explore the collapse of communism in Europe and the implosion of the Soviet Union. Shaw is an associate professor of writing and literature at Johnson State College in Johnson, Vermont, where he directs the Communications and Community Media program. He has taught overseas in Romania, Serbia, Moldova, and Latvia, sometimes as a Fulbright Specialist. His work has appeared in Saranac Review, The Truth About the Fact, Green Mountains Review, and elsewhere. Anyone with questions about this event or requiring disability accommodations should contact Jacob White in the Department of Writing (jrwhite@ithaca.edu / 904-501-9860). |
