"The Nature of Things," a short story by Associate Professor Jack Wang of the Department of Writing, appears in the current issue of The Malahat Review, a Canadian literary journal from the University of Victoria. The story follows a young couple, both Canadian foreign nationals, in Shanghai during the outbreak of the Second Sino-Japanese War in 1937.

Last week, Wang presented a special session entitled "The Making of Cozy Classics: Abridging Emma in Twelve Words and Twelve Images" at the Jane Austen Society of North America's Annual General Meeting in Washington, DC. The theme of this year's AGM was "Emma at 200: 'No One But Herself.'"

Currently, the first edition of Cozy Classics: Pride and Prejudice (co-created with Holman Wang) appears in an exhibit entitled "Will & Jane: Shakespeare, Austen, and the Cult of Celebrity" at the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, DC. The exhibit examines the literary celebrity of these authors on the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death and the approaching 200th anniversary of Austen's. Wang's book appears in a section entitled "Child's Play," which focuses on adaptations of Shakespeare and Austen for children.
