Gary Kubera '82 "A Chemical Industry Executive with over 30 years of Global Experience".Contributed by Paula Larsen on 10/30/16 Tuesday, November 1st at 12:10pm in CNS 333, Pizza and Drinks Provided Surprising to many college students, chemistry has an impact on society much greater than a college degree. It is a ubiquitous part of our economy, providing jobs ranging from education to research and medicine to industry. The choices a graduate in chemistry has are far reaching, maybe even daunting,at least for those that haven't decided what their future holds. Maybe the experience can help add some perspective on how chemistry affects our economy and what trends are likely to drive change and opportunity over the next 10-20 years.
After graduating from Ithaca College in 1982, Gary joined Olin Corporation as a Sale Representative to begin a 30+ year career in the chemical industry. After obtaining an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago, Gary took a number of roles in marketing, Sales management, strategy, and business development with several companies in the industry. In 2005, he became CEO of Canexus, a Canadian chemical company, which he ran until 2014. After a 2 year engagement with Dyno Nobel Americas, he is currently thinking about what his next great adventure will be. Throughout his career, Gary has seen the impact of changing market trends on the industry, including governmental policies and societal views. Trends that can affect not only the chemical industry but also medicine, research, and the environment.
