We are inviting you to participate in a research study!

We are conducting a study called  “¿Cómo Suena? Phonological Similarity in Spanish”. The purpose of this study is to better understand how individuals define sound similarity between words.

We are looking for participants who are proficient in Spanish. We would define proficient as comfortable with conversational Spanish.

As a participant:

  • You will be seated in front of a computer with a blank screen that will present nonsense words. For each nonsense word you hear, you will respond with the first Spanish real-word that comes to mind. The experiment should last no longer than 20 minutes.
  • Students with any known speech or hearing disorders will not be eligible to participate in the study.
  •  Students must be 18 or older to participate.

The risks to you as a participant are minimal and would not exceed those likely to be encountered by you in your everyday life.

The results of this study may be published in scientific research journals or presented at professional conferences. All names of participants and the results of the experiment will be kept confidential.  In addition, you can choose not to participate at any time.

If you are interested in participating in research study HSR 0115-10, or have any further questions, please contact Lee Drown ldrown1@ithaca.edu.
