Veteran mental health; discussion Thursday at 12:15pmContributed by Alexandria Lopez on 11/06/16 Join Active Minds as we begin a discussion about veteran mental health on our campus and around the country. Active Minds is a safe space and welcomes people with a diverse variety of experiences and viewpoints. Newcomers always welcome!! Join us Thursdays at 12:15pm in Williams 211. Veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are now returning to campuses across the country and taking advantage of benefits assured through the Post-9/11 GI Bill. Many of them carry the stress, trauma, and memories of active duty. Some struggle with depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other mental health issues. However, many veterans do not feel they can seek help for these issues. Lack of treatment can then lead to poor academic performance, isolation, withdrawal from relationships, substance abuse, and/or suicide. ******** Do you know a veteran in crisis? Please call Veterans Crisis Line at 1-800-273-8255 and Press "1." Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Alexandria Lopez at alopez3@ithaca.edu. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible. |
