Provost Linda Petrosino announced today that Dr. Alicia Swords, Associate Professor of Sociology, has been named Director of the Honors Program. Dr. Swords has taught at Ithaca College since 2006 and focuses on global development, social movements, and social change. A graduate of Oberlin College with majors in environmental studies and politics, she earned her Ph.D. in development sociology from Cornell University.  Dr. Swords employs community-based learning and service-learning in her teaching and has led short term study abroad trips to the Dominican Republic.

Dr. Swords succeeds Dr. Thomas J. Pfaff, Professor of Mathematics, who has served as Director of the Honors Program since August 2013. Under Dr. Pfaff’s leadership, the Honors Program has implemented a curriculum focused on five key learning foci: academic challenge, global citizenship, cultural engagement, scholarly achievement, and civic engagement.
