Public Safety Satellite Office Grand Opening: Monday, January 23, 2017 (10am – 2pm)Contributed by Terri Stewart on 11/29/16 On behalf of your entire Public Safety team and the students that comprise the workgroup for advancing Public Safety diversity, inclusion and engagement goals, we are excited to announce the grand opening of our Satellite Office on Monday, January 23, 2017 coinciding with the first day of classes. Thank you to those who completed the survey for preferred hours of operation for our pilot launch. Based on feedback we will begin providing uninterrupted service at the satellite location from 10 am – 2 pm, Monday through Friday, when classes are in session. Once into the semester we will reassess and provide additional opportunities for our campus community to provide feedback on hours of operation, services and other interests, as we move to gradually increase hours of operation over time. Located on the 2nd floor of the Campus Center, adjacent to the Information Desk, the satellite location will make Public Safety more purposely visible and accessible in the heart of our campus. This space provides a conveniently located, highly visible platform and presence for our campus community to access Public Safety services and programming, while at the same time creating opportunities for positive engagement and partnership building between officers and our students, faculty, and staff as well as other guests and visitors. Public Safety, which is comprised of Patrol and Security Services, Student Auxiliary Safety Patrol (SASP), Environmental Health and Safety, and Parking Services, will maintain our remote location on Farm Pond Road which will continue as our main office (24/7 year round). For those of you who may have missed previous communications concerning the Satellite Office, we use this opportunity to highlight the purpose of this space. In sum, satellite offices are a longstanding community-oriented policing tool for removing barriers, while building and strengthening relationships between the campus police and the community it serves. As such, the purposeful placement of the satellite office puts Public Safety in the path of our community where our presence can be felt in positive and meaningful ways. Moreover, the satellite office supports and aligns with Public Safety’s existing mission, vision and guiding principles and our diversity, inclusion and engagement goals. Thank you for your patience and support as we work toward the completion of this extension of our office and services. We are extremely excited for this opportunity and we look forward to forging new and positive partnerships with the community we proudly serve. If you have questions, comments or suggestions concerning the satellite office or other areas and aspects of Public Safety, I invite you to contact me directly at 274-3353 or by email at tastewart@ithaca.edu I look forward to hearing from you. |
