Luca Maurer, Center for LGBT Education, Outreach & Services program director, has co-authored a suite of multimedia resources with Genny Beemyn, Ph.D., Director of the Stonewall Center at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst: The LGBTQIA+ Supportive Campus: Developing Effective Policies, Programs & Practices Binder, CD + Digital Training Video. The resource is designed to assist higher education professionals and institutions better understand and meet the needs of today's LGBTQIA+ college students.

The resource includes a 100+ page binder, CD, fact sheets for training, and interactive video with self-assessment to measure learning. It addresses ways to create and maintain a welcoming, inclusive community, and to retain LGBTQIA+ students through graduation.

 

Sections include:

  • Who Are LGBTQIA+ Students Today? Including students who have non-binary gender identities and sexualities, students with ace and aro identities, intersectionality and more.
  • The Experiences of Gen Y and Z Students, examining the realities of coming out and transitioning at college.
  • The Political, Legal & Compliance Climate, for a better understanding of the compliance and legal issues pertaining to LGBTQIA+ students — including nondiscrimination policies and Title IX.
  • Experiences and Needs on Campuses - what the issues are - from bathrooms to classrooms.
  • Greek life to athletics and more — and recommendations for meeting student needs, and suggestions for policy language.
  • Educational Materials & Resources.
