Opera Ithaca presents Thumbprint, a contemporary opera about women's rightsContributed by Susannah Berryman on 12/01/16 We hope you will join us this weekend for Thumbprint, by Kamala Sankaram and Susan Yankowitz, the opera that tells the remarkable story of Muhktar Mai and her fight for women's rights, justice, and literacy.
The music of THUMBPRINT is a dynamic collision of operatic singing and Hindustani musical tradition, scored for seven singers and six instrumentalists. We are thrilled to present this important work which plays Opera Ithaca in between performances in NYC and LA. Please join us at the Hangar Theatre this weekend for an opera like no other.
Saturday December 3rd 8pm Sunday December 4th 3pm The opera is being produced by Opera Ithaca, the professional opera company headed up by two impressive alums, Zachary James and Lynn Craver. The production is directed by Susannah Berryman, choreographed by Mary Corsaro and conducted by Richard Montgomery. A stellar cast mixes local and imported singers. Ithaca College faculty, staff, and students serve in many capacities in the production, from designers to stage manager to musicians and more.
