Patricia R. Zimmermann, professor of screen studies and codirector of the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival, and Dale Hudson (NYU-Abu Dhabi) conducted a special workshop on their new book, Thinking Through Digital Media: Transnational Environments and Locative Places (2015) with PhD students in cinema studies at New York University on November 29, 2016.

Via Skype, Zimmermann and Hudson engaged in interactive dialogues with graduate students and faculty about the theories, methods, and analyses of international new media art in their book.

Thinking Through Digital Media is one of the designated texts studied for critical media methodology in the PhD program. It offers a means of conceptualizing digital media by looking at projects that think through digital media, migrating between documentary, experimental, narrative, animation, video game, and live performance. The book analyzes international projects at the intersections of imbedded technologies, transitory micropublics, human-machine interface, and critical cartographies. Hudson is a former faculty member in screen studies at Ithaca College.
