MLK Week 2017: Civil Rights Tour Presentation & FilmContributed by Martin Petrella on 01/08/17 Next up in our series of event spotlights for MLK Week 2017 are two events happening on Wednesday, January 25th, 2017; the MLK Scholars Civil Rights Tour Presentation and the MLK film and discussion. January 25th, 2017 @ 4:00pm in Emerson Suites – Civil Rights Tour Presentation Each year the new class of first-year students of the Ithaca College Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholar Program create an original presentation to highlight their journey on the Civil Rights Tour that occurs during the IC Fall Break in October. Through creative performance and the use of multimedia, the Scholars reflect on experiences and knowledge gained through their travels to various parts of Georgia and Alabama. This year, there will be a Q&A immediately following the presentation. January 25th, 2017 @ 7:00pm in Emerson Suites – “Tangerine” Film Viewing & Discussion “Tangerine” has been selected as the MLK Week 2017 film. The film will be shown starting at 7:00pm followed by a moderated discussion. It's Christmas Eve in Tinseltown and Sin-Dee is back on the block. Upon hearing that her boyfriend hasn't been faithful during the 28 days she was locked up, the sex worker and her best friend, Alexandra, embark on a mission to get to the bottom of the scandalous rumor. Their rip-roaring odyssey leads them through various subcultures of Los Angeles. Tangerine is a 2015 American comedy-drama film directed by Sean S. Baker and written by Baker and Chris Bergoch, starring Kitana Kiki Rodriguez, Mya Taylor, and James Ransone. The story follows a transgender sex worker who discovers her boyfriend and pimp has been cheating on her. The film was shot with three iPhone 5s smartphones.
