5 Ithaca College students attended the African American Student Leadership Experience and have developed an original learning and reflection opportunity for the IC community on Tuesday, February 28th, 2017 at 12:05pm in Klingenstein Lounge, Campus Center for all IC community members. Lunch will be provided until it's gone!

5 Ithaca College students were selected to attend the African American Student Leadership Experience (AASLE) in Washington D.C, sponsored by the Office of Student Engagement and Multicultural Affairs (OSEMA).

• Nnebundo Obi (’19)- Sociology major. MLK Jr. Scholar, African Latino Society.
• Bob Chang (’18)-Physical Therapy major. Resident Assistant, Ithaca Achievement Program.
• Victoria Jackson (’19)- Writing for Television and Film major. MLK Jr. Scholar, African Latino Society, Mentor for Ithaca Youth Bureau.
• Fatoumata Jallow (’18)- Economics and Mathematics major. African Students Association, Student Governance Council, National Association for Black Accountants.
• Anthony Cosby Jr. (’19)- Athletic Training Major. African Latino Society, Alumni Diversity & Inclusion Committee member, Anatomy & Physiology TA.

Representing Ithaca College, they were among a delegation of over 200 students comprised of more than 25 institutions from across the country (USA). The AASLE was a four-day intensive experience where students were challenged to put theory into practice, thus having a leadership experience in real time.

This year’s theme, “Be the Change: Global Vision. Global Reach. Global Impact.” encouraged delegates to do more than “talk the talk,” but to be vessels of transformation both domestically and internationally. The AASLE was coupled with a new partnership that included the Asian/Asian American, Pacific Islander (AAPI) and Chicano/Hispanic/Latinx (CHL).

Victoria Jackson was awarded the Bryant Educational Leadership Group Medal of Honor for her continued social change initiative though her Youtube channel titled “Raising Consciousness.”

 Raising consciousness moments are the moments in our lives when we learn something that challenges or changes the way we think about the world and the people in it. I will dive into social justice topics such as culture, race, diversity equality, equity, pop culture, nationality, and other topics that interest you! Fatoumata Jallow was the winner of the AASLE Passport Challenge for Involvement and Engagement in Real-time. Each participant was given a document to track their involvement and engagement throughout the conference that would then count for points to be tallied on the last day. Fatoumata received the most points out of over 200 participants through attending sessions, participating in dialogue during sessions, taking on the role of “Group Leader” within the 10 Point-Platform Manifesto creation teams, social media posting, volunteering (judge for the talent show), and going the extra mile to be present and openly challenged in the space. Fatoumata was honored as the Challenge winner and received a brand new Apple Watch.
