A message from the new director of the Honors Program, Alicia Swords:
The Honors Program lounge, computer lab and offices have moved to a new space on the garden level of Peggy Ryan Williams Center.
When the Provost invited us to make this move at the end of the fall semester, the Honors Steering Committee and Student Advisory Board discussed our options and agreed it would be an exciting opportunity.
The new space is a solid upgrade and a good deal larger than where we were on the second floor of Muller. Our new area includes a reception area, offices for the director and visiting international scholar, lounge and study areas, computer lab, and a collaborative workspace for advising sessions and group projects. On the Garden Level of PRW, we also have access to a shared conference room and shared kitchen with refrigerator and microwave.
The lounge and computer lab continue to have free printing (with a new printer!) and Honors students can enter with their student IDs 24-7. We’ll also have coffee, tea, and cocoa. We’ve aimed to make it comfortable, inviting, and cheerful!
We are grateful to IC’s interior design and technology experts, the Provost’s office, and facilities for working hard over the break to equip the new space with sweet new furniture for hanging out, collaborative work, and quiet study. Some items are still on their way, but the lounge and computer lab are ready to use.
Our new office and reception area is in a shared suite with the Center for Civic Engagement, led by recently hired director Dr. David Harker. We aim for this shared space to facilitate synergies between Honors and Civic Engagement. Be on the lookout for an opening event, coming soon!
We are a 5-minute walk from Campus Center. Our door on the garden level of PRW faces Job and the Business School and opens just below the Dillingham fountain. You can also walk indoors from Campus Center via the 2nd floor of Dillingham.
Please come check out our new space! We're looking forward to welcoming you.
