Faculty/Staff Advisers needed for Volunteer Trips to California and Maine!Contributed by Don Austin on 01/24/17 For our third straight year, OSEMA will be offering students the chance to volunteer in three locations around the US as part of the Summer Service Trip Program.
Occurring from May 13 – May 20, Summer Service will take place in Boulder Creek, California, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Acadia National Park. Students will volunteer with the YMCA Camp Campbell’s Outdoor Education Camp, which is located in the beautiful Redwoods about an hour south of San Francisco. In Milwaukee, volunteers will help out at the largest urban agricultural center in the United States – Growing Power Inc. And at Acadia National Park, students will help the National Park Service prepare for another busy camping season on the island! Advisers are needed to help students with managing their budget, following college and programmatic policies, being on hand in case of an emergency, and to help with transportation around the site. Advisers work with the student leader on the trip to assure that the experience is engaging, challenging, and fun for the participants! Faculty/staff advisers are not compensated for participation, but will not incur any expense for participating in the program. This is a great way for faculty and staff to travel and bond with students engaging in volunteerism. If you think you’re up to traveling and volunteering with a group of students after finals week, contact Don Austin at austin@ithaca.edu to learn more about becoming a summer service trip adviser!
