A message from the H&S Dean's Office:

Applications for the H&S 2017 Summer Scholar Program are due Monday, February 13th, at 12:00pm (Noon).

The H&S Summer Scholar Program provides paid positions for H&S students in creative arts, humanities, social sciences, and mathematics to engage full-time in a research, scholarship, or creative inquiry project. Each Summer Scholar works in collaboration with a Faculty Mentor.

This is the third year of the program; in 2016, 15 students pursued a wide range of research projects, including projects such as “Accent Bias in Argentina: Who Said it Better?” and “Challenging Concepts of Beauty through Art”. This year, up to 20 students may receive a Summer Scholar award.

All students with declared majors in H&S are eligible to apply; financial aid eligibility is not a requirement for the program, although financial aid eligible students may be considered for an Emerson Humanities Collaboration Award through the application process—no additional application is required for this award.

Both Scholars and Mentors must submit proposals to the program. Strong proposals will showcase creative and thoughtful design, a student-driven structure, and well-defined goals with feasible implementation plans. Each proposal must provide evidence of plans for active mentoring. Successful proposals will be professional and well-written, expressing the student’s passion for pursuing the question or problem being explored in the project.

There will be a 50-minute information session for interested students and faculty, held on Wednesday, February 1st, at 4PM in Business 301. This info session will provide detailed information, perspective from prior Scholars and Mentors, and an opportunity to ask questions. Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Dan Haney at hsadmin@ithaca.edu or (607) 274-3120. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.

For complete information on eligibility and program requirements, as well access to online proposal forms, see the H&S Experiential Learning web profile here. This program is made possible in part by Ithaca Annual Fund gifts and by the Emerson Foundation's support for the Humanities Collaboration Award.

Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Daniel Haney at dhaney@ithaca.edu or (607) 274-3409. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.
