The Department of Writing is excited to announce its 2017 Writing Contest, which is open to all IC students, registered full time or part time.

- First-Year Essay
- Feature/Magazine
- Fiction
- Nonfiction (including Argument)
- Poetry
- Personal Essay
- Graphic Narrative or Text/Image
Deadline: 5:00pm, Monday, March 27th
Contest Rules:
1.The Writing Contest is open to all students registered at Ithaca College,
full or part time.
2. Students may enter as many categories as they like, one entry per
category. If submitting more than one category, send separate emails.
3. Any manuscript that has been a winning submission in the Writing
Contest in a previous year is not eligible for this year’s contest.
4. Manuscripts may be of any length, except for submissions in the poetry
category, which must include three poems.
5. Email your submission to writingcontest@sakai.ithaca.edu by 5:00 on
Monday, March 27th, 2017. Late entries will not be considered.
Attachments should be a single document in PDF format.
6. Your email subject line must read CATEGORY_LASTNAME (for example:
POETRY_GONZALEZ). An error in submission form may mean that your
entry will not be considered, so please double-check. Include your name,
address, phone number, and email address in the email’s body.
7. The contest is sponsored and judged by the Department of Writing. The
decisions of the judges are final. The judges may choose no winner for a
particular category if they find no manuscript that in their estimation merits
award. Winners will be contacted directly and announced widely by
Monday, April 17th, 2017.
8. Winners and runner-ups in each category will receive a prize and be
honored with a reading at the end of the semester. The winning entrees will
also be published on the Ithaca College’s website. (Here are last year's winners.)
9. A Judge’s Prize may be awarded to one outstanding entry. The winner of the
Judge’s Prize will also read as part of the New Voices Festival.
