Participate in a Physical Therapy graduate research study!Contributed by Kelly Pantason on 01/29/17 We are looking for participants for a research study related to pain pressure thresholds and neck or arm pain.
The term “pain pressure threshold” refers to the amount of force applied to a specific point on the body at which the sensation turns from pressure to pain. The study is to take place at Ithaca College’s Center for Health Sciences (CHS) in the coming months. We are accepting both participants with and without neck or arm pain to attend one 60 minute session at which we will ask you to fill out a few questionnaires relating to neck or arm function and pain perception, as well a physical screening and a data collection portion. The data collection portion of the session will consist of a trained examiner using a pressure detecting device called an algometer to measure how much force is applied to various points along the neck and arm and on the front of the shin before the sensation turns to pain. The pain during the test is minimal, short in duration, and should not result in any residual discomfort. This research project is part of the physical therapy program graduate study and the results will be used to improve the diagnosis of neck and arm pain as it relates to nerve dysfunction. If any participants with pain are identified, they will be referred to the appropriate physical therapy or medical services.
