The Handwerker Reading Series presents IC faculty and student writers + Open Mic this TUESDAY (2/7)!Contributed by Jacob White on 02/05/17 The Department of Writing is pleased to announce its first Handwerker Reading of the spring semester, which will take place at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, February 7th in the Handwerker Gallery (Gannett Center). Tuesday's reading will feature readings by Writing faculty member Augusto Luiz Facchini and Writing majors Jasmine Gayle and Emma Sheinbaum. You can read more about these writers below. Augusto Luiz Facchini is a recent PhD graduate in Fiction from Binghamton University. Originally from Brazil, his work delves into issues of exile and isolation, immigrant identities, and magical realism. His short story, "The Lemon Tree," has been published in the Rio Grande Review. He currently teaches writing at Ithaca College. Jasmine Gayle is a senior Writing major and English minor. She has an aspiration to become a novelist, essayist, as well as a teacher. She loves the idea of traveling, to eat good food, and thrives on good conversation with others. She hopes that these experiences with others will inspire her work. She also hopes to create thought-provoking work that will move others. An Open Mic will follow these readings. All students, faculty members, or staff members are invited to bring a work of creative writing to read that speaks out, pushes back, or simply responds in some way to the cultural crisis unfolding around us.
