Even though the Orientation Leader (OL) and Student Leadership Consultant (SLC) positions are two separate jobs, there are some universally common reasons why you should consider applying.
The Community
As part of a team of 15 SLCs or 20 OLs, you will develop a special bond with other student leaders through a unique combination of work and fun. These are relationships that will positively expand your IC community and will also last a lifetime!
The Development
It is hard to imagine two jobs that prepare you more comprehensively for “the future” than being a SLC and/or an OL. In each job you will learn universal leadership skills that are applicable in all job fields, and these diverse experiences make a perfect fit when building any resume.
The OSEMA Team
You would be hard pressed to find a more fun, supportive team to work with than the professional staff in OSEMA. Each staff member makes an effort to get to know you on a personal level, provides mentorship and guidance, and is willing to help out when the jobs get complex.
The Flexibility
While each of these jobs are a significant time commitment in their own way, there are a multitude of ways that the time commitment can work for you. The SLC position is a balance of scheduled shifts and flexible project work. OLs have weekends off to explore Ithaca in the summer, take road trips, or even visit home.
The IC Connection
The heart of both positions is creating a unique bond with the campus community. OLs guide new students through their transition into IC, while SLCs support their on-going journey by making their college experience special.
The Legacy
Each of these positions has a legacy that will not only connect you to your team of SLCs and OLs, but you will be connected to generations of previous leaders and the students you positively impact.
