The First-Year Residential Experience (FYRE) is an educational community experience for first-year students with goals of easing student transitions, supporting academic success, and furthering student learning on selected outcomes.
Each year, under the direction of an FYRE Associate, FYRE Student Associates will help execute FOUR Residential Learning Initiatives during the academic year in the area of Diversity & Inclusion, Sustainability, OR Social & Emotional Learning. (Residential Learning Initiatives are events, campaigns, or other learning strategies that further students understanding of a specific learning outcome.)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current undergraduate student at Ithaca College in good academic standing (GPA of 2.0 or higher)
- Good conduct standing during time of employment
- Understanding of the FYRE mission and learning outcomes
- Emerging and developing leadership skills including organization, creativity, initiative / motivation, time management, ability to execute ideas, teamwork, problem solving skills, responsiveness, etc.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm and interest in working with first-year students
EXPECTATIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the development and execution of FOUR Residential Learning Initiatives, under direction of FYRE Associate
- Co-facilitate Residential Learning Initiatives, as needed
- Assist with logistics and planning for Residential Learning Initiatives (may include room / food / transportation reservations, contacting presenters, negotiating schedules, creating sign-up lists, soliciting RSVPs, etc.)
- Contribute talents/expertise (where applicable) including, for example, assistance with advertising, marketing, copy writing, video production, web design, facilitation, social media promotion, etc.
- Further education/understanding in topic area selected
- Attend all planning meetings, event-based initiatives, and other commitments, as defined by the FYRE Associate
- Includes a portion of RA Staff meetings on Thursday evenings (beginning at either 7pm or 8pm)
COMPENSATION:
- $9.70 (Fall) & $10.40 (Spring) per hour for up to 60 hours during the academic year (approximately 15 hours per Residential Learning Initiative). Please note that, per Ithaca College rules, students may not work more than 20 hours per week on campus. Compensation will be dispersed hourly via timecard.
