New Faculty Members Take the Helm of Mozart’s "La clemenza de Tito"Contributed by Susan Monagan on 02/22/17 Ithaca, NY- Ithaca College’s innovative production of Mozart’s “La clemenza di Tito,” opens Friday, February 24th. We offer a spotlight on the opera’s stage director and conductor, two new faculty members. Jennifer Williams, stage director, brings a fresh conceptual approach that makes this 200 year-old opera surprisingly relevant. Williams’ experience includes "La boheme" with Miami Music Festival, "27" and "Sumeida’s Song" with the Pittsburgh Opera, and "Turn of the Screw" and "Don Giovanni" with DC Public Opera. Bringing Mozart’s glorious score to life is conductor Christopher Zemliauskas ’97, an alumnus of IC’s School of Music. Zemliauskas is assistant professor of musical direction for opera and musical theatre and brings years of experience to conducting the orchestra of IC School of Music instrumental music majors. Zemliauskas’ conducting credits include "Cendrillon", "Die Schauspieldirecktor", and "The Medium" at NYU, and "Oklahoma!", "Carmen", "A Little Night Music", and "Westside Story" with Central City Opera in Colorado. These Ithaca College faculty members bring new energy and perspective to classical works of music and challenge students – on stage, in the pit, backstage, and in the audience - to think critically about how ancient stories can still be relevant in modern times. “La clemenza di Tito” will be performed on February 22nd (Preview), 24th, 28th, March 2nd and 4th at 8 pm as well as February 26th at 2 pm.
