Akita International University is a four-year liberal arts university located in Akita city (population about 313,000) in the Tohoku region of northern Japan.  AIU was established in 2004, and since then has been recognized as one of the top universities in Japan for its uniqueness and innovative approach.

The undergraduate program at AIU offers all subject matter courses taught in English. Japanese language and Japanese studies courses are offered for international students to enhance their understanding of their host country.
