HPPE Recognized at National Awards Ceremony At its recent national convention in Boston, the Society of Health and Physical Educators /SHAPE America recognized a HPPE faculty and three alumni for their outstanding contributions. Dr. Hongwei Guan (Associate Professor) was the recipient of the R. Tait McKenzie Award. This award is given in recognition of “distinguished service by members, which takes place outside the framework of SHAPE America but which reflects prestige, honor, and dignity on the association.” Dr. Timothy A. Brusseau (BS 2003 in Health and Physical Education Teacher Education, MS 2004 Sport Pedagogy) received the innovative paper award for his article on the impact of a comprehensive school physical activity program on fitness of children from low-income families. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Utah. Dr. Kevin Mercier (BS 1997 in Health and Physical Education Teacher Education, MS 1999 Sport Pedagogy), currently an Assistant Professor at Adelphi University, received the Helen Heitmann Young Scholar Award. Dr. Jennifer Walton-Fisette (MS 2004 Sport Pedagogy) was inducted as a Fellow to the Research Consortium. She is currently an Associate Professor at Kent State University. |
