Colleges Against Cancer Raises money for American Cancer SocietyContributed by Theresa Johnson on 03/28/17 Colleges Against Cancer is Ithaca College’s chapter of the national campus-wide organization that is recognized by the American Cancer Society. Their mission statement is to help fight against cancer through grassroots advocacy, prevention and early detection education, Relay for Life and many other activities honoring cancer survivors. Colleges Against Cancer, or CAC, also promotes the Great American Smoke-out (quitting smoking), breast cancer awareness, sun safety, and healthy lifestyle choices within the Ithaca community. CAC’s biggest event is Relay for Life, which happened Saturday and Sunday (April 25-26) in the A&E Center! Groups of students, clubs, factuly members, etc. form teams and walked around the track for 12 hours straight for a great cause! This years event raised over $21,500 (as of March 9th). This year's Disney theme included food, fun, and games for everyone. Plus there were performances and entertainment to keep the energy high the whole night. But Relay is much bigger than just Ithaca College - Relay events are staffed and coordinated by over 5,200 volunteers in over 27 countries! You can donate, create a team, or learn more about this year’s event by clicking here. All are welcome to join CAC! At each meeting, members split up into various committees to give special attention to every aspect of our organization, one of which includes Relay For Life. CAC meets every Tuesday at 8pm in the Friends 207. Stop by! Have questions? Reach out to cacithaca@gmail.com or check out their OrgSync page.
