That caught your attention, didn't it? If you speak Elvish (or even just English), why not expand your knowledge and understanding of another language? Gaining access to another person's language fosters appreciation for diverse attitudes and cultural practices, which in turn breeds tolerance of others. When you study a language that is not your own, you begin to see the rich ways in which humans use language to communicate and to preserve their individual and collective histories. Ithaca College offers classes in Arabic, Chinese, Hebrew, and Latin. We offer majors and minors in French/Francophone Studies, German Area Studies, Italian Studies, and Spanish, as well as several Teacher Education options. If that doesn't pique your interest, think about a minor in Linguistics or Translation. Questions? Contact Maria DiFrancesco, Chair, Modern Languages & Literatures, mdifrancesco@ithaca.edu |
