Patricia Zimmermann, professor of Screen Studies and codirector of the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival, presented a paper on international new media projects that interrogate and engaged environmental issues  at the Society for Cinema and Media Studies Conference in Chicago on March 23, 2017.

Her paper was entitled "Unsettling and Reimagining Politics:  Beyond Interventionist Activism."  The paper analyzed new media projects that refuse the binaries between the biological and the computational to suggest that mutations in code, interface, and image prompt rethinkings of the environmental imaginary.
