Join The Eco-Reps for the Earth Week Waste-LESS ChallengeContributed by Greg Lischke on 04/13/17 Submitted on behalf of the Office of Energy Management and Sustainability The average American produces 4.5 pounds of trash per day. Think that sounds like a lot? It is; it’s enough to fill 63,000 garbage trucks per day, and amounts to nearly 260 million tons per year. Think you can do better? Show us! The Eco Reps are hosting the Waste-less Challenge Apr 17 thru Apr 21. The challenge is simple: collect everything that cannot be recycled, composted, or repurposed in your provided Ziploc bag (except for plastic water bottles, those go in the bag). Attach the Ziploc bag to your backpack or book-bag and carry it with you for a week. At the end of the week, turn in your bag of trash to Campus Center and be entered to win a WASTELESS SURVIVAL KIT!! Tag @icecoreps with #wasteless for unlimited, additional entries. To participate, please stop by Campus Center on Fri, Apr 14, between 11 am and 3 pm to pick up your Ziploc bag and to be registered in the contest. If that is not convenient, please email us at irecycle@ithaca.edu to arrange an alternate time. Return your collected trash in the Ziploc bag to Campus Center on Fri, Apr 21, between 11 am and 3 pm for an additional raffle entry. A winner will be chosen at random. |
