UPDATE (4/19/17): We just got word that Claudia de la Cruz has encountered travel difficulties and is unable to be in Ithaca in time to make the noon presentation.  Today's D&I Discussion Circle will be our regular weekly gathering without a presentation.

The Diversity and Inclusion Discussion Circle invites members of the campus community to attend its weekly gatherings on Wednesdays at noon in Klingenstein Lounge.

At our next gathering on Wednesday, April 19, Claudia de la Cruz will present on the power of hip-hop to influence social change, and her work as part of Rebel Diaz Arts Collective (RDAC) in the South Bronx. Through bilingual musical performances and educational workshops, RDAC is a space for cultural exchange and education around timely social justice issues.

Claudia was born in the South Bronx to immigrants from the Dominican Republic and is committed to the struggle in defense of human rights and social justice. She is an educator, activist and and minister with over 10 years of experience working with different communities in New York City, particularly immigrants, youth and women in the West Harlem and Washington Heights/Inwood communities. She holds an Mdiv/MSW from Columbia University/Union Theological Seminary in New York City.

Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Jaimie Voorhees at jvoorhees@ithaca.edu or (607) 274-3118. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.
