Reminder-Office of Civil Rights focus groups today (4/19) and Thursday (4/20)Contributed by Tiffani Ziemann on 04/18/17 Students, staff and faculty are welcome to attend focus groups hosted by the Office of Civil Rights on Wednesday, April 20th and/or Thursday, April 21st. More information about these focus groups can be found here. Ithaca College is collaborating with the Office of Civil Rights to gather information on how Ithaca College responds to reports of sexual violence and sexual harassment. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend a focus group: · Wednesday, April 19, 2:30pm-4:00pm., Ithaca Falls room, Campus Center · Thursday, April 20, 9:00am-10:30am., VIP Room, A&E Center During these meetings, OCR staff will provide general information about OCR and offer attendees the opportunity to share information relevant to OCR’s review. Individuals may also speak privately with an OCR representative during the following office hours: · Wednesday, April 19, 4:00pm-5pm., Ithaca Falls room, Campus Center · Thursday, April 20, 10:45am-11:45am., VIP Room, A&E Center
Ithaca College takes reports of sexual violence and sexual harassment seriously, and is continually working to improve our prevention and response efforts. Information about campus policy, resources and prevention efforts can be found at https://www.ithaca.edu/sacl/share/. In recent years, the College has seen significant growth in the response and prevention efforts, including: · The College hired a full-time Title IX Coordinator in January 2016; · Training for faculty, staff and students has increased, including dedicated time at first-year/transfer student orientation, and new employee orientation; · Campus committees have been created to review college policy, as well as our prevention programming and education; · The number of reports made to the College have increased, matching national trends as colleges and universities work to remove barriers to reporting sexual violence; · Adopted the New York State definition of Affirmative Consent; · The Student Code of Conduct has been updated to include sexual misconduct that occurs off-campus, and implemented an amnesty policy for other conduct violations when reporting sexual misconduct; · The College has adopted a new online training module on sexual assault awareness and prevention that will be required for all incoming students, and be available to all students, including graduate students, during their time at IC; · We have continued to develop our partnership with the Advocacy Center to connect more of our students to their resources and services, and increase their presence on our campus.
