This seminar explores concepts and debates concerning indigenous peoples within the history of U.S. colonialism. Employing theories and methods from anthropology and indigenous politics, this course considers such topics as settler colonialism and indigenous resurgence, the revitalization and preservation of native culture and society, cultural constructions of "tradition" and "modernity" within American and racial imaginaries, and struggles over native claims to land and sovereignty. The class meets Thursday 4:00 - 6:40 p.m.
