Ithaca College senior Sport Studies majors Ahmad Boyd and Olivia Oppenheim recently made their second presentations at the national Popular Culture Association conference in San Diego, April 10-14.

The students were accompanied by Stephen Mosher, coordinator of the Sport Studies program.  Boyd and Mosher were among four presentations that evolved from Colin Kaepernick's social justice protests during the 2016-17 NFL season. Boyd's presentation "Taking a Knee: A Student's Perspective on Athlete Protest" followed Mosher's "Before Kaepernick: Athlete Protests in American Sport Since Desert Storm."  Oppenheim's presentation "Leadership Academies: Leading Athletes Toward . . ." focused on the political positions upon which Leadership Academies are premised and her own experience as a student athlete participating in Ithaca College's program.
