H&S Summer Scholars and Science Researchers Receive Awards for 2017Contributed by Stacia Zabusky on 05/11/17 The School of Humanities and Sciences is pleased to announce the third year of the H&S Summer Scholars Program in the arts, humanities, social sciences, and mathematics. Together with the ongoing Summer Science Research Program, H&S will be home to more than fifty students from June through August participating in mentored research, scholarship and creative inquiry projects. The Summer Scholars Program provides paid positions for H&S students to engage full-time in a research, scholarship, or creative inquiry project, in collaboration with a faculty mentor. Twenty H&S student projects were selected from a competitive field of 38 project proposals; this summer, the Scholars represent a wide variety of majors including Anthropology, Art, English, Mathematics, and Psychology. Four of the Scholars were awarded Emerson Humanities Collaboration Awards through the proposal review process. They will be joined by other humanities and social science students pursuing mentored inquiry through the Dana Internship program. The H&S Summer Scholars program is made possible in part by Ithaca Annual Fund gifts and by the Emerson Foundation's support for the Humanities Collaboration Award. The Summer Science Research Program is a long-lived program in H&S; students spend up to 10 weeks in the summer actively engaged with faculty in collaborative scientific research projects in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, environmental science, computer science, and physics. These opportunities are supported by the H&S Science Research Fund, department-based awards, Dana Internships, and a variety of external and internal grant programs. |
