Peter Silberman, Associate Professor of Music Theory, presented a talk based on an Ithaca College course he developed at the conference Pedagogy Into Practice:  Teaching Music Theory in the Twenty-First Century, held at Lee University in Cleveland, TN, on June 2.

Silberman's talk, entitled "Teaching Musical Borrowing in the Music Theory Classroom," discussed a seminar on musical borrowing (incorporating material from an earlier composition into a newer composition, such as sampling or quotation) that he developed and taught during the fall 2015 semester.  The talk included a course overview, an explanation of course goals, a presentation of new methodologies for musical analysis created for the course, and samples of student work and comments.
