Asma Barlas, professor of Politics, taught a three week long seminar on Muslim women's rights and Islamic feminism in St. Petersburg, Russia, in July as part of an advanced study program at the New York Institute of Linguistics, Cognition and Culture.

NYI is housed in St. Petersburg University and is a collaboration with the State University of New York (SUNY, Stony Brook). Since its inception in 2003, more than 1,000 students from 40 countries and over 50 Russian Federation cities have attended the Institute: http://www.nyi.spb.ru
