Vivian Bruce Conger, History, participates in a five-day George Washington Teacher Institute programContributed by Vivian Bruce Conger on 08/07/17 Each program of the GWTI has a specific theme. The August 1-5 session was Martha Washington and the Women of the Eighteenth Century. Conger was invited to participate as a scholar of early American women’s history. On August 2, she led a session entitled “The Law, Marriage & Widowhood.” The George Washington Teacher Institute is a highly competitive educational experience which brings elementary and secondary school teachers to Mount Vernon for an intensive course of study. Participants immerse themselves in the study and discussion of important themes in American history and the role George Washington played in the founding of our nation. The educators stay on the estate and receive access to scholars, diverse primary sources, and on-site experiences.
