This past summer Randi Millman-Brown (Visual Resources Curator) received an ACE grant and a staff-development grant to conduct research in Norway for her historical novel set in Norway and Germany during WWII.

The novel will be based on the life of her great uncle, Thor Einar Jensen (1904-1941), a Norwegian banker and artist, who died under mysterious circumstances in 1941 during the Nazi occupation of Norway. It will center around his working life in Oslo and Hammerfest, Norway, and delve into the Nazi occupation of Norway (Finnmark in particular) and the efforts of resistance by the Norwegian people.

Millman-Brown traveled extensively through Norway, searching through archives, museums and libraries to try to uncover the true story of her great-uncle's death. You can see the research she’s done to date on this work-in-progress on her blog: www.searchforthor.com
