Get ready to clap and sing along with the Ithaca College Jazz Ensemble! This free one-hour concert will be an enjoyable way for kids of all ages to learn about this great American music.

The Ithaca College Jazz Ensemble will play, sing, demonstrate instruments — basically, do anything and everything to help answer the question "What is jazz?"

The performance will be on Saturday September 16th, 2017 at 10AM in Ford Hall in the Whalen Center for Music at Ithaca College. Parents with small children are encouraged to come and stay for the show, even if their kids make noise. Making a joyful noise is what jazz is all about!

Jazz Ensemble director Mike Titlebaum explains "For aspiring jazz musicians, it is important that we can teach children about the fundamental aspects of jazz that make it unique from any other music: primarily it's swinging rhythms and deep blues feeling. We aspire to teach about it in a way that's fun and engaging to kids because we want to build an audience for the music we love so much. And because so many students in the music school are majoring in Music Education, they are passionate about bringing the music to young people."

Ample free parking is available in the "J" lot by the towers. Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Mike Titlebaum at mtitlebaum@ithaca.edu or (607) 274-1283. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.
