This workshop is sponsored by the Center for Civic Engagement and will be framed specifically for students who will be engaged in the local community. The workshop is presented by Kirby Edmonds and Laura Branca of Training for Change (TFC) Associates, a training and consulting firm founded in 1982 and based in Ithaca, New York.

The Goals of this workshop are:

  • To prepare students for meaningful and effective engagement with members of the community and some of the local agencies and projects working to improve the quality of life in our city and region.
  • To support the mutual benefits of community-based learning for students and local community partners.
  • To increase self-awareness and encourage self-reflection about the impact of culture, group identity, and power arrangements.
  • Increased understanding and awareness of critical issues and challenges in developing cultural competency.

Please note that BOTH sessions are required - Monday September 11th, 7:00-8:15pm AND Saturday, September 16th, 9:45am-2:00pm. Snacks will be served Monday evening, and light breakfast snacks with coffee/tea and a full lunch will be served on Saturday. Please contact David Harker, Director of the Center for Civic Engagement, with any questions: dharker@ithaca.edu.

Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact David Harker at dharker@ithaca.edu or (607) 274-7784. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.
