Amanda Decker, assistant director of admission, and President's Hosts co-chairs Justin Albinder '18, Terrence Brophy '18, Zoe Mendrysa '19, and Julia Zubrovich '19  presented at the New York State Association for College Admission Counseling (NYSACAC) Student Leaders in Admissions (SLA) Forum in Albany, NY September 9th.

SLA provides opportunity for college tour guides/ambassadors/student workers in admissions and their supervisors to network and learn from each other during workshops for both students and supervisors. Ithaca College participants presented an engaging session entitled:

Across Campus and Back: A Tour Guide's Journey from Hiring to Training.

Session Abstract - Every semester, the Ithaca College Presidents’ Host Committee brings in a new set of tour guides. The application and hiring process is extensive, as we try to find the best and most enthusiastic student representatives of Ithaca College. We look for students that exude passion and dedication to their studies, as well as committed involvement with the campus community. After they’re hired, these students follow a detailed schedule in order to keep their training on track. The new hires will spend their time shadowing and learning from the veteran tour guides on the committee. Our presentation will highlight the ways in which we select our new tour guides through application and interview processes. We will provide information about how we set our new hires up for success, as well as how we support them during the process. Additionally, we will discuss the ways the new hire training unites the whole committee in the effort.
