Time Breaks Open: Visible and Invisible Spaces
Work by Susan Weisend
Curated by Mara Baldwin
September 6-October 18, 2017

Susan Weisend transforms common and sometimes unnoticed natural images into their authentic status of uncommon and noteworthy by layering and juxtaposing images. Form, texture and color invite the observer to travel across and through time. Her work insists that we participate with her by dropping our assumptions about humanity’s place of privilege in the world. She encourages us to see all life as valuable. She places before us the ‘gone’ with the present, the departing with the arriving, and locks us, at least briefly, in an exuberant and humbling landscape of gorges, rock slabs, fossils, and tributaries. Susan Weisend, visual artist and Professor of Art at Ithaca College, earned her M.F.A. at Washington University in St. Louis and her undergraduate degrees at Syracuse University (B.F.A.) and SUNY Cortland (B.A.).
