Assistant Professor of Spanish Giovanna Rivero was recently invited to participate in the Instituto Cervantes' 8th annual celebration of the "Festival de la Palabra" (Festival of Words), which brings readers and writers together in a series of readings, lectures, and workshops to promote the exchange of literature and ideas.

The central topic of the VIII Festival de la Palabra is "Shared Stories," reflected on the cultural relationship between old colonies and colonizing countries. Discussion focused on how old colonized territories have claimed their independence and have been able to influence the colonizing country’s culture through a constant dialogue. Giovanna participated on a panel entitled, "Las historias que nos comen por dentro" (Stories That Eat Us From Inside).
