Contemplative Cafe Monday, November 6 (Noon-1pm) at the CFE, Gannett Center 316Contributed by Kathryn Caldwell on 11/05/17 Join us for our first Contemplative Cafe in the Center for Faculty Excellence, where we will have monthly presentations and/or discussions about the uses of contemplative pedagogy in our classes. Mindfulness is a foundational skill in all the performing arts, especially in the art of singing where the instrument is the living body. IC voice professor Carol McAmis has been studying and applying a wide variety of mindfulness techniques to training singers for over thirty-five years. Her current project The SingerSpa combines breathwork, toning, and movement into MovingSound Meditations that promote health and well-being for everyone...not just for singers. Join her for a brief Mini-Spa Sampler that can be used anytime to bring you back to balance, followed by a conversation about how Carol uses guided imagery, meditation, movement and sound in training singers and other musicians. (No solo singing will take place during this event so don't be shy!) Feel free to bring your lunch. Please RSVP at: https://www.ithaca.edu/jotform/preview.php?formID=72974320151
