With the Halloween surge of package volume coming to Ithaca College, UPS is once again experiencing substantial delays. This is expected to severely impact the ability of IC Mail Service to process and distribute packages for the entire campus community.

FOR STUDENTS - While we can and will make every reasonable effort to make as many packages as possible available for pickup the same day they are received, large numbers may unavoidably spill over into the following day. Express (overnight) packages will not be affected, as these are usually received separately from other deliveries. These items will still be available for pickup the same day they arrive.

FOR DEPARTMENTS - This delay is having a cascade effect where our department will not be able to complete all deliveries of those packages the same day. Therefore, our staff will first prioritize afternoon department deliveries as follows...

  • Express (overnight) deliveries due that day
  • Items marked as requiring refrigeration

All other deliveries will be dependent on time available to complete before the end of the work day. Mail Services will, at its discretion, hold some deliveries in the Mail Center until the next day and will attempt to complete them during the morning delays we now have while waiting for carrier trucks to arrive. Our criteria for holding packages is entirely based on the circumstances we encounter each day.   Departments are welcome to contact the Mail Center to inquire if a package is on hold, and to come pick it up if needed before our delivery the next day. Mail Service is not able to accommodate separate individual deliveries on demand.

We ask for your patience and understanding while we work to manage the impact that both high volume and late arrival has on our department's ability to serve the campus.
