Information Technology has successfully installed Windows 10 on over 1,000 PCs across campus including most of our labs, eClassrooms and conference rooms in addition to early adopters and testers. So far, feedback has been great and we've received very few reports of issues related to the new operating system.

Information Technology is now preparing to upgrade all remaining PCs on campus. We are asking for your assistance with upgrading your Windows 7 computer at your earliest convenience as we transition to the latest Windows operating system.

On Monday October 30th, Information Technology will release the Windows 10 self-service install that will allow you to upgrade to Windows 10 at your convenience without assistance from Information Technology.  We will deploy Windows 10 upgrades and security updates in this manner in the future.

Look for a pop up notification that says “New software available. Click to view the available software.” Click on the notification and follow the prompts to initiate the Windows 10 installation.  The installation will take approximately forty-five minutes to complete, so we suggest you start the installation before you leave for the day or before you take your lunch. That way, your installation will be complete and your PC ready to use when you return to your desk. Keep in mind your computer will restart during the process so make sure to save any open documents.

The upgrade process will backup and restore your data for you. Information Technology advises that you consider backing up your data to Microsoft’s OneDrive as a safeguard to ensure that your data is not lost. Please click here to refer to this Knowledge Base article for instructions on how to back up your data to OneDrive.

The self-service option will remain available to you through Winter break and we strongly encourage you to initiate the upgrade prior to Wednesday January 3rd.  Information Technology intends to have all PCs upgraded to Windows 10 prior to the start of the Spring 2018 semester.
