Join us for the film showing of Iron Jawed Angels and a vigorous discussion afterwards about the film’s messages, accuracy and relevance led by Executive Director Cyndy Scheibe of Project Look Sharp. The event will occur at Cinemapolis on Wednesday November 1st, at 6:30 p.m. and while admission is free, a $5.00 donation will be graciously accepted as well. About Iron Jawed Angels
Iron Jawed Angels is a 2004 American historical drama film directed by Katja Von Garnier. The film stars Hilary Swank as suffragist leader Alice Paul, Frances O’Connor as activist Lucy Burns, Julia Ormond as Inez Milholland, and Anjelica Huston as Carrie Chapman Catt. The film focuses on the American women’s suffrage movement during the 1910s and follows women’s suffrage leaders Alice Paul and Lucy Burns as they use peaceful and effective nonviolent strategies, tactics, and dialogues to revolutionize the American feminist movement to grant women the right to vote. It received critical acclaim after the film premiered at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival.

About Cyndy Scheibe
Executive Director and Founder of Project Look Sharp,is co-author of the book The Teacher’s Guide to Media Literacy: Critical Thinking in a Multimedia World (2012, Sage/Corwin). She is also a Professor of Psychology at Ithaca College where she has taught courses in developmental psychology, media research, and media literacy for more than 25 years, and serves as the Director of the Center for Research on the Effects of Television Lab and Archive.

 

Project Look Sharp is Ithaca College’s Media Literacy Initiative. Project Look Sharp supports the integration of critical thinking through media literacy in school curriculum and teaching. They do this through developing and providing lesson plans, media materials, training, and support for educators at all education levels. The purpose of media literacy education is to help individuals of all ages develop the habits of inquiry and skills of expression they need to be critical thinkers, effective communicators, and active citizens in today’s world.
