We are writing with an update to our November 8, 2017 communication regarding New York State Paid Family Leave (NYSPFL). Ithaca College’s senior leadership team is planning a thoughtful and intentional approach to revisiting the current leave provisions for both faculty and staff.

We understand the importance of employees being able to balance the demands of the workplace, their individual needs, and the needs of their families. To that end, we have broadened our collaboration efforts to include input from the tri-council leadership (Faculty Council, Staff Council, and Student Governance Council) as we work to finalize an Ithaca College paid family leave policy that will provide paid leave benefits for all IC faculty and all staff.  Our ultimate goal is to arrive at a solution that will be thoughtful, intentional, and family-friendly in creating parity among faculty and staff leave provisions. The focus of our collaboration will be on developing an employer-paid approach for faculty and staff in the implementation of a paid leave policy that will honor the intent of the NYSPFL, and provide a generous benefit to faculty and staff with no cost to them.

We will provide ongoing periodic updates as we progress toward finalizing the new policy.

Sincerely,
Ithaca College Senior Leadership Team and Deans
