The Department of Writing's Handwerker Reading Series is proud to present a reading of poetry by author and IC alumna nicole v basta and Professor Cory Brown tonight (Tuesday, Dec. 5) at 6 p.m. in the Handwerker Gallery.

nicole v basta is the co-founder of the Brooklyn-based art collective + performance night Say Yes (Electric Collective). She is the author of the chapbook V, chosen by Rigoberto González as the winner of The New School's annual contest. Her poems appear or are forthcoming in Painted Bride Quarterly, Compose, By & By Poetry, Forth, Juked, Public Pool, The Gravity of the Thing, and Canary, among others. nicole was an artist in residence at Art Farm Nebraska in 2016.

Cory Brown has been teaching at IC since 1990--these days he teaches mostly personal essay writing and poetry writing. His latest collection of poems, What May Be Lost, was published in 2014 by Cayuga Lake Books. His poems have appeared in Bomb, Nimrod International, and Postmodern Culture. He also publishes personal essays, which have appeared in South Loop Review and Journal of Narrative Politics.

The readings will be followed by a short Q&A. This event is free and open to the public. Please come out and celebrate the accomplishments of these IC writers.
